It started with students who wouldn't sing
For 19 years, Matt directed a high school choir, watching talented kids shrink: not because they lacked ability, but because nobody had ever shown them their voice was trainable. Teaching them changed how he understood the instrument everyone carries.
Years in the classroom built the coach's ear he still uses today: the ability to hear exactly what a voice is doing and exactly what it could do.
Then he went deep on the science
Passion wasn't enough. Matt trained in Estill Voice Training, one of the most respected models of vocal technique in the world, which breaks the voice into specific, trainable components.
It turned "you sound better" into "here is exactly why, and here is how to do it again on command."
The classroom got bigger
In 2023, Matt stepped away from the classroom to coach full time. Voice By Matt took everything from the music room to the people whose voices carry their livelihoods: speakers, executives, pastors, performers. The mission stayed the same. Find the voice. Train it like an athlete. Let it carry the message it was built for.
Then came UnMUTE, the live workshop where emerging speakers train together; SHE Speaks, for women ready to share their stories; Voices of Hope, the nonprofit choir he founded; and the podcast, where voices worth hearing tell their stories.
Today the voice does the proving
Keynotes. Hosting galas and conferences. Coaching voices from first-timers to professionals. Every room Matt walks into is a live demonstration of the thing he teaches: a trained voice changes what happens when you speak.
